The police officers involved when a man feared to be suicidal was fatally shot last week in Bloomington were identified Wednesday.

Deputy Police Chief Rick Hart also announced that the four officers were placed on paid administrative leave for three days, which is a routine practice.

Quincy R. Reindl, 24, died from "multiple gunshot wounds" late Thursday, the Hennepin County medical examiner's office said Sunday. Authorities have not disclosed whether Reindl shot himself or whether the deadly gunfire came from one or more of the officers.

The officers involved and their length of service with the department are: Jeff Bailey (12 years), Mike Perron (eight years), Mike Smith (three years) and Anthony Kiehl (two years). Their leaves, which began the day after the shooting, are "for those personnel directly involved in a critical incident."

There have been no disciplinary actions against any of the officers, said Deputy Chief Rick Hart. Bailey and Perron both have a commendation medal and two supervisory commendations in their respective files, Hart added.

According to the Sheriff's Office, which is handling the case, police responded to a 911 call shortly after 11:10 p.m. of a suicidal person at a home in the 9900 block of Briar Road.

Reindl had a gun and began walking through the neighborhood as police shadowed him, the Sheriff's Office added. Voice traffic on the police scanner indicated that Reindl pointed the gun at both himself and at police.

A final confrontation occurred around 11:25 p.m. near 99th Street and Nesbitt Avenue, about four blocks to the west of the apartment Reindl shared with his mother.

Gunfire broke out after Reindl refused several orders to drop his gun, a sheriff's spokeswoman said.
