A Coon Rapids man was sentenced Monday to 180 days in the Anoka County workhouse and 10 years of probation after he used a smartwatch to take photos of underage boys at area health clubs.

Robert Minor, 54, was charged in March 2013 with seven counts, including one count of stalking a victim under 18 with sexual or aggressive intent, two counts of use of minors in a sexual performance and four counts of possession of pornographic work involving minors.

He pleaded guilty in May to the stalking charge. And after a trial he was later convicted of three counts of child pornography possession, as well as interference with privacy. Kelly Keegan, Minor's defense attorney, said Minor was acquitted of the other charges.

Minor was arrested after a 12-year-old boy told his parents about a man's suspicious behavior at the Andover YMCA in early 2013.

According to the charging documents, the boy saw a man hold his watch over a bathroom stall partition while he was changing out of his bathing suit.

Police searched Minor's house and found a watch like the one described, as well as computer files with several videos and images of child pornography.

Keegan said the judge's decision was fair, adding that the judge "ensured that justice was done for everybody in this case."

"Mr. Minor wanted to take responsibility from Day One," Keegan said. "He has expressed remorse; he feels terrible about what happened."
