A dispute between an ex-boyfriend and the new guy ended with one man running over the other -- not once, but twice -- near Brooklyn Center High School, authorities said Wednesday.

Now the driver is jailed on suspicion of attempted murder, and his victim is in the hospital with a broken pelvis, police added.

The incident began late Tuesday afternoon, when the woman's current boyfriend struck the ex-boyfriend at a bus stop near 65th and Humboldt Avenues N., said police Cmdr. Brian Peters.

The victim was hospitalized with noncritical injuries after having been run over by the SUV, whose driver decided to strike him a second time, Peters added.

The driver turned himself in and was booked into the Hennepin County jail, Peters said. "We had his plate, so he knew we were looking for him," the commander said.

Peters said he did not know with set off the conflict between the men, whom he did not identify but said they are in their 20s or 30s.
