A searchers Sunday morning are looking for a St. Louis Park man who has been missing since his kayak overturned on Medicine Lake early Saturday.

Paul Linden Myklebust, 31, was last seen kayaking around 2 a.m. Saturday at the lake with a friend, Hennepin County sheriff's officials said. Myklebust left a nearby party and headed to the lake, where he and a friend became separated after they fell in the water.

The friend made it safely back to shore and told authorities he assumed Myklebust had too, police said.

A boater called 911 at 7:45 a.m. to report an overturned canoe, which authorities later realized was a partly submerged kayak on the lake's northwest side.

Alcohol is believed to have been a factor in the incident, police said.

The sheriff's office Water Patrol was on the lake at midday Saturday with divers and a sonar imaging system. A search is also being conducted on land with the help of volunteers and helicopter assistance.

Myklebust is described as a 6 foot, 190-pound white male with brown hair and blue eyes.

He grew up in Hopkins, graduated from Hopkins High School and went to Luther College, said his friend, Elizabeth Shero. According to his LinkedIn profile, Myklebust manages financial advisers at Ameriprise Financial. He was recently promoted, Shero said.

Authorities ask anyone with information to call the Sheriff's Office at 763-525-6215.
