Wild parsnip: A weed to watch

How to identify it: In its flowering stage, it stands 4 feet high on stout stems. Clusters of small yellow flowers are up to 6 inches wide. It grows alongside roads and ditches but spreads to grassy areas.

How to eradicate it: Plants can be pulled by hand, cut with a knife or mowed. Cutting should be done at the root crown before the weed and its seeds mature.

How NOT to handle it: Do not allow the plant or its sap to come in contact with bare skin. Wear gloves, long sleeves and pants when handling.
