A teenager has been charged in the beating death of Chaska man.
A 16-year-old Chaska boy was charged with assault in the beating death last week of his mother's boyfriend, the Carver County attorney's office said Monday.
The teenager was taken into custody early Wednesday after authorities say he got into a fight with Kirk Thomas Anderson Jr., 33.
The charges were contained in a petition filed by County Attorney Jim Keeler on Monday to have the teen certified to stand trial as an adult.
The charges in the petition are first-degree assault resulting in great bodily harm and second-degree assault involving the use of a dangerous weapon.
Keeler said the charges could be upgraded as soon as the final autopsy results are sent to his office, possibly later this week.
The mother, the boyfriend and teenager lived in the same home, Chaska police said. The couple had been dating about two years.
When police arrived at the home about 1:40 a.m. on Wednesday, they found Anderson on the front lawn bleeding and unconscious. He was taken to Hennepin County Medical Center, where he died Saturday, police said.
Investigators said the teenager and Anderson fought after Anderson pushed the boy's mother to the ground.
After the two scuffled, the boy hit the man in the head with a lead pipe, the petition said.
