Tickets now on sale for senior dinner, dance

Tickets are on sale for the "One Summer Night Senior Dinner and Dance" on Saturday, June 28, at the Knights of Columbus Marian Hall, 1114 American Blvd. W.

The evening will include an Italian pasta buffet dinner from 5:30 to 6:30 p.m. and dancing from 7 to 9 p.m. to the music of Tim Patrick and His Blue Eyes Band. Semiformal attire is appropriate.

A celebration of Japanese culture at Normandale

Food, entertainment, shopping and a chance to connect with the Twin Cities' Japanese community will be featured at a Japanese garden festival from noon to 6 p.m. Saturday, June 14, at Normandale Community College.

'A life that matters' is Thursday Rotary topic

Jeff Tollefson, executive director of the nonprofit Genesys Works, will speak Thursday, June 5, at the lunch meeting of the Edina Rotary Club.

The former co-founder of a global venture capital management firm helped establish Genesys in 2008. The group aims at building bridges between economically disadvantaged high school students, businesses that need tech workers and inner-city school systems.

The meeting will run from noon to 1:30 p.m. at the Edina Country Club, 5100 Wooddale Av. The cost is $18 and includes lunch; reservations are not required. For more information, visit www.edinarotary.org.

Frank Lloyd Wright Jr. home honored by city

Edina's Heritage Preservation Board awarded Brian and Linda Tell the 2014 Heritage Award for their preservation of the Arthur Erickson House at 5501 Londonderry Road.

The award recognizes outstanding contribution to the preservation, rehabilitation, restoration and use of Edina's heritage resources.

The Arthur Erickson House was built in 1950 under the direction of architect Frank Lloyd Wright Jr. Arthur Erickson and his brother Alfred, who ran a petroleum business that became Holiday Stationstores, commissioned Wright to design two homes in Edina. Alfred's home was torn down in 1998.

The sprawling, Z-shaped home features floor-to-ceiling windows and elements of the outdoors in its designs.

The Tells bought the house in 1996 and have preserved the integrity of Wright's original design.

YogaFit Studio hosts 24 hours of free yoga

YogaFit Studios in Excelsior will host a 24-hour yoga event on Saturday, June 7, that's free and open to the public.

The event, to celebrate its first location, incudes family-friendly yoga from 8 to 11 a.m., a digital led-class from 11 a.m. to noon and a live DJ and refreshments from 4 to 9 p.m.

Public comments taken for Flying Cloud project

Hennepin County is accepting public comments until June 25 on an environmental assessment work sheet on Flying Cloud Drive improvements.

The county is working with the state Department of Transportation, the cities of Eden Prairie and Chanhassen and Carver County on the project to improve County Road 61/Flying Cloud Drive from Charlson Road in Eden Prairie to the ­triangular intersection at Flying Cloud Drive and Hwy. 101 in Chanhassen.

City seeks part-time firefighter candidates

The Hopkins Fire Department is seeking candidates for the position of part-time firefighter.

Uniforms, equipment and training are paid for by the department and firefighters are paid for all classes, training, calls, drills and duty crew shifts. Firefighters who work at least 10 years on the Hopkins force receive a pension.

Applicants should live within eight minutes of the Fire Department. No experience is necessary.

Police teach kids about bike safety

Minnetonka police officers will visit six Minnetonka parks this summer to teach kids about bike safety at free community events.

On Tuesday, June 17, there will be events at 1 p.m. at Covington Park, 18920 Manchester St.; at 2 p.m. at Spring Hill Park, 16714 Seymore Dr.; and at 3 p.m. at Gro Tonka Park.

Three events will also take place on Wednesday, June 18: at 9 a.m. at Meadow Park, 2725 Oakland Rd., at 10 a.m. at Glen Lake Elementary School, 4801 Woodridge, and at 11 a.m. at Boulder Creek, 5948 Stoneybrooke Drive.

The events are free; participants should bring a bike and helmet.

Climate change discussion is Saturday

Tony Leiserowitz, director of the Yale Project on Climate Change Communication, will speak via conference call at meetings of the Citizens Climate Lobby on Saturday, June 7, starting at 11:30 a.m. at five west-metro locations.

Leiserowitz is an expert on American and international public opinion on global warming, including public perception of climate change risks, support and opposition for climate policies, and willingness to change behaviors.

Meetings are at the Edina Library, Eden Prairie Library, Maple Grove Library, Minneapolis' Linden Hills Park building, and Two Pony Gardens at 1700 Deer Hill Rd. in Long Lake.

Blue Water Theatre shows start June 12

Blue Water Theatre Company of Wayzata is presenting "How to Succeed in Business Without Really Trying" starting Thursday, June 12.

The shows will take place at 7 p.m. June 12, 13 and 14 at the Eisenhower Community Center, 1001 Hwy. 7, Hopkins. Tickets are $14 for adults, $11 for students. They will be sold at the door beginning one hour before each performance, or in advance at www.bluewatertheatre.com.

The production features 50 teen actors from the metro area and is directed by Charlie Leonard.
