Pete Hegseth to speak to Republican seniors

Iraq and Afghanistan War veteran and Fox News contributor Pete Hegseth will be the featured speaker at the Republican Seniors of Minnesota meeting on June 3.

Also there will be state auditor candidate Randy Gilbert and U.S. House candidates Doug Daggett and Aaron Miller.

The Republican Seniors meet on the first Tuesday of each month at Poor Richard's Commonhouse, 8301 Normandale Blvd. They gather at 10 a.m. for coffee and a meeting, then hear from the speakers, then have lunch.

Home improvement seminars offered

The Bloomington Housing and Redevelopment Authority is holding three free home improvement seminars this spring and summer. They are:

• Thursday, June 5, 7 p.m.: "Landscaping and Pest Control," with Brad Phillips, master gardener at Home Depot,.

• Thursday, July 10, 7 p.m.: "LED Lighting" with a master electrician.

• Thursday, Aug. 7, 7 p.m.: "Choosing the Right Tile for Your Home."

All seminars will be held in the Rehearsal Hall at Bloomington Civic Plaza, 1800 W. Old Shakopee Rd. Drawings for door prizes will follow the seminars.

Woman's club presents scholarships

The Bloomington Federated Woman's Club presented two scholarships to Kennedy High School 2014 graduates Brenna Carberrys and Dana Kidrowski.

Brenna will be attending the College of St. Thomas in St. Paul, and Dana will be a student at Normandale Community College in Bloomington. The scholarship money comes from the club's fundraising efforts. For more information, go to www.btwminnesota.org.

Lions sponsoring tractor pull on Saturday

The Corcoran Lions Club is sponsoring a tractor pull at 7 p.m. Saturday, May 31, at the Corcoran Lions Park at the junction of County Roads 101 and 10.

It will feature several colorful events. Beer and food will be for sale on the grounds; no coolers are allowed.

Lake Minnetonka car show to be held June 1

The second annual "10,000 Lakes Concours d'Elegance," a classic car and boat show, will take place June 1 in Excelsior.

The show of rare and historic cars and classic boats from 1905 to 1971 also includes local food, tours of a Tonka Toy exhibit and live music by members of the Minnesota Orchestra.

The event takes place from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. June 1 at Excelsior Commons. The show, French for "Competition of Elegance," benefits the ICA Food Shelf, a Minnesota-based charitable organization providing assistance to neighbors in need.

MAPLE GROVE

New police chief to start top role June 9

Maple Grove's new police chief takes office Monday, June 9.

Eric Werner will move into the top police spot, replacing Chief David Jess, who is retiring on Friday, May 30. Werner, Rosemount's police chief, has more than 25 years of law enforcement experience, working for the Burnsville Police Department before being named chief in Rosemount in 2012.

Werner will be officially sworn in June 16.

The city received 43 applicants and interviewed six candidates for the position. Werner's annual salary will be $115,945.

MINNETONKA

Community session for new police chief

Minnetonka will host a community welcome and open house for new Minnetonka Police Chief Jeff Sebenaler on Monday, June 2.

The event will take place from 5-6 p.m. in the Shady Oak Room at the Minnetonka Community Center, 14600 Minnetonka Boulevard. Light refreshments will be available and a swearing-in ceremony will take place during the 6:30 p.m. City Council meeting.

Sebenaler will officially become the police chief on Sunday, June 1, following the retirement of Chief Mark Raquet the previous day.

City hosts plant market

The city of Minnetonka will host a native plant market and "Eco Fun Fest" on Wednesday, June 4.

The event will take place from 3-7 p.m. at the Minnetonka Civic Center Campus, 14600 Minnetonka Blvd in Minnetonka.

Residents can buy native plants, visit the Zoomobile, take a bird or plant walk, watch a puppet show and see reptiles.

Ridgedale Library hosts free clinic

Ridgedale Library will host a free "Fix-It Clinic" on Saturday, June 14, where residents can get household items fixed for free and learn repair skills.

The clinic takes place from noon to 4 p.m. at the library, 12601 Ridgedale Drive in Minnetonka.

Residents can bring in small household appliances, clothing, electronics, mobile devices and more to receive free guided assistance from volunteers with repair skills to disassemble, troubleshoot or fix items.

The clinics are meant to teach valuable troubleshooting and basic repair skills, build community connections and reduce the number of repairable objects that are thrown in the trash.

Burwell House opens for tours on June 7

The Burwell House will open for regular tours starting on Saturday, June 7.

The historic house, located at 13209 E. McGinty Road, will remain open until Aug. 30. Tours are available Tuesdays from noon-3 p.m., Wednesdays from 6-8 p.m. and Saturdays from noon-4 p.m. In September, the house is open on Saturdays only from noon-4 p.m.

The house, built by Charles H. Burwell in 1883, and is on the National Register of Historic Places.

WAYZATA

Tickets on sale for 'Wine on Wayzata Bay'

The seventh-annual "Wine on Wayzata Bay" event will take place on Friday, June 27.

The wine-tasting charity event will be held from 6:30-9:30 p.m. at the Wayzata Yacht Club. The event includes wine samples, hors d'oeuvres from local restaurants, live jazz music by Court's in Session, a silent auction and sailboat rides until sunset.

The event, which is open to the public, is sponsored by Wayzata Wine & Spirits; proceeds support the Wayzata Community Sailing Center.

Tickets cost $60 in advance, or $75 the day of the event.
