Minnesota Reading Corps positions available

Five locations in the Eden Prairie school district have been chosen as Minnesota Reading Corps sites for the 2014-15 school year.

The program's goal is to help every child become a successful reader by the end of third grade.

Cedar Ridge, Eden Lake, Forest Hills, Prairie View elementary schools and the Early Childhood program have full-time and part-time positions available.

They include: Cedar Ridge, one part-time position; Eden Lake, one full-time position; Forest Hills, two part-time positions (plus an additional two part-time Math Corps positions); Prairie View, one full-time position, and Early Childhood, six part-time positions.

Qualifying to become a Reading Corps volunteer does not require a teaching background. Volunteers will receive a monthly stipend, an educational award, professional development opportunities and other eligible benefits.

Hopkins

Royal Den Playschool accepting applications

Parents looking to run a few child-free errands will soon have the option to send their toddlers to high school. Hopkins High School's Child Psychology II class is opening its annual Royal Den Playschool on Thursday, April 24.

Students and their instructor plan educational activities for the playschool, including math, arts and crafts, science, reading, music, and games/exercises.

The hours are 1:20 p.m. to 2:25 p.m. Tuesday through Friday, through June 4. to be admitted, children must be 3 years of age or older and potty-trained. Parents are able to enroll their child in all or some of the scheduled days.

Blessed Trinity's rummage sale is May 7-10

With more than 400 households contributing merchandise, Blessed Trinity will host a rummage sale May 7-10.

The sale will take place at Blessed Trinity's Nicollet Campus Gym at 6720 Nicollet Av. S. in Richfield. Presale day will held from 5 to 8 p.m. May 7 and will include a $1 admission fee. The rummage sale will be open from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. May 8. May 9 will be Half-Price Day from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. May 10, Bag Day, will run from 8 a.m. to noon.
