Lake Minnetonka

Lake Minnetonka cities are moving forward with exploring creating a scenic byway around the lake.

The 14 lake cities met in February to discuss the idea to be Minnesota’s twenty-second scenic byway. Now, each city council is being asked to approve a resolution by the end of May supporting the continuance to work with the state to study the idea.

Wayzata approved it Tuesday. The other cities are Deephaven, Excelsior, Greenwood, Minnetonka, Minnetonka Beach, Minnetrista, Mound, Orono, Shorewood, Spring Park, Tonka Bay, Victoria and Woodland. Supporters say the distinction would add signs to direct visitors around the lake and to attractions, boosting tourism.

Still, to give final approval on it, all the cities would need to vote and the state would have to approve a formal application.
