Body of boater found in Lake Minnetonka

Last update: July 16, 2008 - 11:28 PM

Authorities have recovered the body of an Edina man who had been missing in Lake Minnetonka since early Sunday.

The Hennepin County Water Patrol pulled the body of 41-year-old Vincent Erickson out of the water about 6:10 a.m. Wednesday, said Tracey Martin, a spokeswoman for the Hennepin County sheriff's office.

Erickson's death was ruled a drowning, the Hennepin County medical examiner said.

Erickson's body was found about 100 yards from shore on the south side of Casco Point, Martin said.

Searchers had been looking for him since a resident called 911 early Sunday after hearing cries for help. Soon after, a woman called 911 and said a man who had been aboard a boat with her was missing in the water.

Reports said that Erickson and the woman had jumped into the lake. The woman made it back to the boat.
