Roundup of west metro municipal races

In addition to Bloomington, five west metro suburbs have elections for mayor and City Council seats on the Nov. 5 ballot. Here are the candidates, city by city.

Golden Valley

Three of five at-large City Council seats are up for election.

Incumbents Paula Pentel and DeDe Scanlon are not running for re-election. Nine candidates are running for those seats, and the top two will join the council.

Those candidates are Larry Fonnest, Simon Gott­lieb, Bob Hernz, Greg Keivit, Chris Miller, Gillian Uecker Rosenquist, Paul David Scofield, Jacquelyn Smith and Andy Snope.

The third seat is held by Steven Schmidgall, who was appointed to the council last year to fill the seat of a member who was elected to the Legislature. Schmidgall is seeking to retain the seat and will face challenger John Giese.

Hopkins

Mayor’s seat, two City Council seats up for election.

Mayor Eugene “Gene” Maxwell is facing challengers Anthony Ray Bostic and Garold Healy.

Two council members will be elected from a field of five. Incumbents Kristi A. Halverson and Cheryl Youakim are seeking re-election, and Jeremy Grenz, Mark Kociemba and Rachel Seurer also are running for council seats.
