The Hennepin County Medical Examiner has identified the 27-year-old man who was shot and killed by Minnetonka police on Wednesday.

Michael Tray of Austin was killed in an underground garage at Claremont Apartments after walking around carrying a cocked revolver just before 8:30 p.m. Wednesday. A resident told police he didn't live there, but was walking around with the gun before police confronted him in the parking garage at 10761 Smetana Road near Excelsior Boulevard. Tray died at the scene.

The Hennepin County Sheriff's Office is now investigating the incident. It was the first officer-involved fatal shooting in the history of the police department, a spokeswoman said, referring all questions to the county.

The names of the Minnetonka police officers who responded to the shooting will be released next week. Police Chief Mark Raquet referred questions to the county, but said the incident was isolated and residents shouldn't be concerned for their safety.
