Eden Prairie police officer Erica Coy and Brooklyn Park police officer Andrew Dickman took turns lighting candles at a Monday-night vigil to honor the state's 38 deaths from domestic violence this year.

The first name read was of Mandy Matula, 24, of Eden Prairie, who disappeared five months ago. She was last seen with her ex-boyfriend, who later killed himself.

The vigil, organized by Cornerstone as part of Domestic Violence Awareness Month, was held at Purgatory Creek Park in Eden Prairie.

Sharon Predovich, one of the Eden Prairie Police Department's volunteer chaplains, read a poem that said, "We light a candle to remember the lost, some who died with such a cost."
