Two men were in custody after they kidnapped the manager of a Minneapolis Verizon store from his driveway on Wednesday night in Loretto as part of a robbery plot, Medina police said Thursday.

Police got a call just before 9:30 p.m. from the man's wife, who said that two men in a red Dodge Charger had abducted him from their driveway in the 100 block of Chippewa Road.

Police soon found the red car. When an officer approached, two men jumped out and fled. The 37-year-old victim, who had been taken at gunpoint, was found unharmed in the car's trunk, his wrists zip-tied together, police said.

After an intensive search involving police dogs and a State Patrol helicopter, the suspects, a 29-year-old man and a 30-year-old man, were arrested and taken to the Hennepin County jail on suspicion of kidnapping. They have not been charged.

Police said they believe the suspects intended to take the victim, along with his business keys, to his place of work in order to rob it.

They said Thursday that the victim and his family were "traumatized" by the abduction and did not want to be contacted by journalists.
