Authorities say they have caught a 23-year-old woman who robbed five banks in less than a month.
A woman dressed in black right down to her scarf and large sunglasses is believed responsible for holding up two banks on successive Thursdays on the outskirts of the Twin Cities area. This photo shows the robber at the bank in Cologne.
Authorities say they have caught a Roseville woman who donned big, black sunglasses and robbed five banks in less than a month in the Twin Cities area and western Wisconsin.
The 23-year-old suspect was caught about 8:30 p.m. Tuesday in Rosedale Shopping Center in Roseville soon after holding up a bank Monday afternoon in Menomonie, Wis., FBI spokesman Kyle Loven said Wednesday.
The woman, who has yet to be charged, started robbing banks in mid-August on the southwest edge of the Twin Cities and worked her way generally north and east, carrying out holdups first in Cologne, then Stacy and Forest Lake in Minnesota, before crossing into Wisconsin and hitting banks in Hudson and Menomonie, Loven said.
In each case, the robber was described as being white, in her 20s, slender and about 5 feet 8 inches tall. She never showed a weapon in any of the five holdups, authorities said.
The woman, a 2008 graduate of Roseville High School who marked her 23rd birthday the day after the second holdup, was arrested without incident in the mall, Loven said.
“She was just going to the mall the way people do,” said Loven, who declined to say what led authorities to put her “under surveillance” and catch up with her there.
The woman was not armed at the time of her apprehension, and the FBI is “still trying to determine what happened to the money” that she allegedly fled with in each robbery, he added.
According to authorities in Minnesota and Wisconsin:
In the Hudson robbery on Thursday, the woman handed a First State Bank and Trust teller a note demanding money. She was given an undisclosed amount of cash and walked out of the bank. Monday’s robbery at Dairy State Bank in Menomonie was carried out in a similar fashion.
She also is suspected of robbing the Klein Bank in Cologne on Aug. 15, the First State Bank of Wyoming in Stacy on Aug. 23 and the TCF Bank in the Cub Foods on Broadway Avenue W. in Forest Lake on Sept. 1.
