So close, and yet not close enough.

The Target Field transit hub is on the agenda for Tuesday's meeting of the Hennepin County Board's Public Works Committee.

The agenda item would seem to signal that a deal has been made with the Minnesota Twins on the $79.3 million project near the team's home field.

But, no. Twins President Dave St. Peter said last week he won't talk until after the board approves an arrangement.

An aide to Committee Chairman Peter McLaughlin said he will yank the item from the agenda, meaning it won't come up on Tuesday. Instead, the board has again scheduled a closed legal briefing on the topic on Thursday.

The interchange is to be an entertainment center and two-tiered transit hub for five commuter and light-rail lines.

The area is bounded by 5th and 7th Streets N., the western boundary of Target Field, and Olson Memorial Highway.
