Wayzata residents give city hundreds of ideas for revitalizing city's lakefront

From a lakeside boardwalk to beach yoga, Wayzata residents have many ideas for how to revitalize the city’s lakefront to boost tourism.

On Tuesday, the city will present some of the scenarios at a public open house from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. at Wayzata City Hall. Community members can register in advance at WayzataLakeEffect.com or by calling 651-293-6860.

The city launched the 16-month planning process last September — part of a 10-year plan to boost the Lake Minnetonka city’s image and remake itself as a metro destination.

Now, midway through that planning process, hundreds of ideas have been gathered at special events, small group sessions, surveys and online forums. Residents have suggested new places such as a band shell, microbrewery and food barges (akin to the popular food trucks) and want the city to redesign its lakefront so it’s biker- and pedestrian-friendly.

The second phase of the process wraps up in September.
