Garden Club marks 75 years with garden tour

The Richfield Garden Club will mark its 75th anniversary with a tour of nine gardens.

The Richfield Beautiful Garden Tour is Saturday from 1 to 5 p.m. Included are gardens with a Tuscan influence, water features, a front-yard vegetable garden, a shady garden and rain gardens. A jewelry maker and a potter will sell their wares at one site.

Tickets for the self-guided tour are $5 and can be purchased at City Hall, the community center, Wood Lake Nature Center or city liquor stores. Ticket buyers will get a map for the tour.

Senior Center offers Minneapolis day tour

The Edina Senior Center will offer a day trip on July 18 for active adults highlighting art and history in Minneapolis.

The tour, which runs from 9 a.m. to 3:30 p.m., will visit famous memorials, gardens and monuments at historic Lakewood Cemetery, pause for lunch at Granite City Food & Brewery, have a guided tour of the lakes and continue to Kenwood, Walker Art Center, the riverfront and the 35W Bridge Memorial.

Creekside Center seeks meal volunteers

Bloomington Human Services is seeking people to help with the noon meal program offered Monday through Friday at Creekside Community Center's City Dinner.

From 11:15 a.m. to 1:15 p.m., volunteers are asked to serve meals to tables, provide coffee and water, clear dishes and clean up.

Volunteer dishwashers are also needed from 12:15 to 1:15 p.m., and the position includes a complimentary lunch. Dishwashers must be able to stand for an hour or more, carry plates and work as a team.

Community forum on sex trafficking

A forum on sex trafficking in Minnesota will be held from 7 to 8 p.m. Wednesday, July 17, in the Gallery at Gethsemane Lutheran Church, 715 Minnetonka Mills Road.

Activist and author Chris Stark will speak on the recent expansion of sex trafficking, how the problem reaches all areas of the state and how it can be combated.

Open houses to discuss Minnehaha Av. tear-up

The public is invited to open houses on Thursday and July 17 on the planned 2015 reconstruction of Minnehaha Avenue from 46th Street S. to Lake Street.

Two designs are being considered for the project, and Hennepin County would like public input on the two options before proposals are presented to the Minneapolis City Council in the fall.

Volunteers sought for penny carnival

The city is seeking volunteers who enjoy interacting with young people to help with the annual Penny ­Carnival set for Friday, July 26, at the Brookview Park large picnic shelter at 200 Brookview Parkway N.

Volunteers will be asked to be on hand from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. The ­carnival runs from 10:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.

People are needed to help operate the games, collect pennies and hand out prizes. They should enjoy working with youth ages 4 to 12 and be able to work outdoors.

Water ski show set for July 17

A show featuring the Prior Lake Water Ski Team will be held at 7 p.m. next Wednesday, July 17, at Parkers Lake Park, County Road 6 and Niagara Lane.

"Shockwaves," the beachfront show, will include music and a variety of water skiing. Bring lawn chairs, blankets and a picnic dinner if you like. Popcorn and ice cream vendors will be available.

Another water ski show is set for Aug. 7. The shows are sponsored by the Plymouth Parks and Recreation Department, and admission is free, but arrive early because space is limited.

Civic Theatre presents 'On Golden Pond'

The Bloomington Civic Theatre will present "On Golden Pond" at the Bloomington Center for the Arts Black Box Theater Friday, July 12, through Aug. 4.

Performances are scheduled for 7:30 p.m. Thursday, Friday and Saturday nights and 2 p.m. on Sundays.

Tickets are $22 for adults, $20 for seniors and $17 for ages 25 and under. A special discounted performance is scheduled for 7:30 p.m. Wednesday, July 31.
