West arts briefs: Bloomington theatre, arts center seek exhibit proposals

Theatre, arts center seek exhibit proposals

Artists in Minnesota, North Dakota, South Dakota, Iowa and Wisconsin are invited to submit proposals for the 2015 exhibition program at Bloomington Theatre and Art Center.

Individuals or groups working in any medium except film or video are eligible. Artists will be reviewed on individual merit.

The art center hosts about 14 exhibitions a year. Go to http://btacmn.org/5artist/exhibit_opps.html for more information or contact Rachel Flentje, visual arts director, at 952-563-8570. The deadline for submissions is March 31.

 

10th annual Writers Festival is March 23

The 10th annual Bloomington Writers Festival and Book Fair is 9:30 a.m.-5 p.m. March 23 at the Bloomington Center for the Arts, 1800 W. Old Shakopee Road.

The festival and book fair are a chance to share information, techniques, skills and resources with other writers. There is something for everyone, from the budding writer to the established author.

Events include a keynote address by author and teacher Tom Hegg. Other activities include author readings, workshops and panels, a master class taught by Hegg and a book fair.

Cost to attend the keynote address is $15, and the cost for each workshop and panel is $13. The cost to attend Hegg’s master class is $100.

Pre-registration is required for the keynote address, workshop and panels, and master class. The book fair and author readings are free and open to the public.

Plymouth

‘City Sampler’ takes place Saturday

The city of Plymouth will host the annual “City Sampler” event on Saturday at City Hall to allow residents to meet elected officials and City Hall staff members from all ­departments.

The event will take place from 9 a.m. to noon at City Hall, 3400 Plymouth Blvd., Plymouth. Coffee and refreshments will be provided and residents can register to win prizes such as a fire truck ride to the local Dairy Queen, order trees and shrubs and buy bike helmets.
