12-year-old tried to stop mother from driving drunk, complaint says

Last update: May 16, 2008 - 11:49 PM

A Maple Grove woman who allegedly drove drunk with her son in the back seat of her car was charged with felony driving while impaired and endangerment of a child, according to a criminal complaint filed this week in Hennepin County District Court.

Rebecca Ann Schroeder had a blood alcohol concentration of. 28 when police stopped her last Saturday and found her 7-year-old son in the back seat, the complaint said.

Schroeder was being held in the Hennepin County Jail as of noon Friday, but she might not be there at all had her 12-year-old daughter succeeded in keeping the keys from her.

Schroeder was about to leave her house when her daughter took her keys to prevent her from leaving. Schroeder wrestled the car keys away from her daughter, who didn’t want her mother to have them because she knew her mother was intoxicated, the complaint said.

Schroeder is scheduled to appear in court on June 3.
