Eden Prairie native takes Excelsior post

Last update: May 7, 2008 - 12:44 AM

Kristi Luger now has her hand on the helm at Excelsior City Hall.

Luger, 27, a native of Eden Prairie and a graduate of Minnesota State University, Mankato, was chosen from among 40 applicants to be the new city manager.

She takes the position from interim city manager Pat Klaers, who joined the city Nov. 15 as a temporary replacement for former City Manager Larry Whittaker, who died of a heart attack in September.

Luger's first day on the job was April 21, when the City Council directed her to move ahead with waterfront park improvements. Other issues immediately facing Luger include the city's desire for a new library, more downtown parking, possibly a new City Hall, and street and storm sewer improvements.

Luger worked previously in Tyler, Minn., for about three years as the city clerk-administrator, leading a staff of nine.

Since growing up in Eden Prairie, she's always had a good feeling about Excelsior, she said, and she especially likes the city's small-town atmosphere.
