Starsha L. Swift, 18, is charged in Anoka County District Court with abetting attempted first-degree murder in the attempted robbery of a Coon Rapids man. Alleged gunman, Brock A. Franklin, 22, of Minneapolis, also is charged
A female Wayzata High School student was charged Wednesday in connection with the shooting of a Coon Rapids man who tried to cancel his request for an erotic call girl from a service that he found advertised on Craigslist.
Police arrested Starsha Laquisha Swift, 18, of Plymouth, after interviewing her Monday at school. She was charged in Anoka County District Court with abetting attempted first-degree murder, as is the alleged gunman, Brock A. Franklin, 22, of Minneapolis.
According to the charges:
Swift and Franklin went to the home of Jeff VanDyke, 42, who had called for an erotic services escort, then called back trying unsuccessfully to cancel it. When Swift knocked about 6 a.m. on Feb. 15, VanDyke said he wanted to cancel.
Swift looked sideways, and an armed man came to the storm door. When VanDyke held it shut, the man shot him in the jaw through the glass door, court charges said. VanDyke's jaw was shattered, and he blacked out on the floor.
Police found Swift had an unexcused absence from school on Feb. 15, when VanDyke was shot. When police interviewed Swift Monday, they confiscated her journal. It contained this entry:
"A man stood in the door clack shat boom what should I do run for safety wait patiently for the man to awake from critical condition."
Sheriff's Capt. James Stewart said police are not looking for any other suspects. Jim Adams • 612-673-7658
