Carver County residents will receive free admission to the Minnesota Landscape Arboretum in Chanhassen on Aug. 3.
The free day began about two decades ago as a "good neighbor" event, said spokeswoman Barb DeGroot, and has gradually become a tradition.
Arboretum Director Ed Schneider will welcome Chanhassen Mayor Tom Furlong and the County Board of Commissioners at 10 a.m., followed by complimentary refreshments and free gift bags at the Oswald Visitor Center.
Other events include a juried art show featuring 30 artworks from county artists, the Dirt-O-Rama summer exhibit, the new Green Play Yard for preschoolers and the newly constructed clay house earthen fort.
Normally admission is $12 each for adults and teens, and free for those 12 and under.
The Arboretum buildings are open from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m., and the grounds are open from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m.
