John Holcomb was selected to complete Erin Adams' unexpired term.
The Minnetonka school board has appointed John Holcomb of Chanhassen as its newest member.
Holcomb will fill the unexpired term of Erin Adams, who moved out of the school district and resigned in April. Holcomb is expected to be sworn in at the board's next regular meeting, Aug. 2.
His seat will be up for election in November 2013.
Holcomb is vice president for health care operations for Target Corp. He has two children in Minnetonka schools and serves on the district's citizen finance and audit committee.
Holcomb and four others submitted applications to fill the vacant term. The others were Tricia Maddox, Heidi Garcia, Jim Patterson and Christian Vitale.
The board last week narrowed the applicants to Garcia and Holcomb. Members unanimously selected Holcomb.
"I see him as someone who really understands governance and who understands what our role as a board is," said Pam Langseth, board clerk. "I see him as very strategic. His communication skills with the community and staff and with all of us will be very helpful."
In his application to the board, Holcomb said he understands the importance of investing in students, educators and public schools. He also stressed that he understood the responsibility that goes along with being a board member.
