An off-duty Eden Prairie firefighter and two law enforcement officers rescued a 55-year-old man trapped in a truck that had gone off the road and into a pond Wednesday near Collegeville, Minn., the State Patrol reported.
The accident happened about 12:40 p.m. about a mile east of Collegeville on eastbound Interstate Hwy. 94.
The patrol said the truck, driven by Dan Shuckhart of Melrose, Minn., went off the road because the driver had a medical problem.
Firefighter William Beumer, who was driving behind the truck, jumped into the water to rescue him.
Within six minutes Casey Jansky, an off-duty Avon, Minn., police officer, and state trooper Mike Bell arrived.
Within 10 minutes, the men had pulled Shuckhart from the truck, which was submerged almost to the roof.
The State Patrol said Shuckhart was conscious when taken to St. Cloud Hospital.
He told investigators he did not remember what happened.
