A sexual assault near a Maple Grove walking path has police turning to the public for help making an arrest.

The man suspected in the stranger attack on a woman Thursday morning "needs to be stopped sooner rather than later," Police Capt. Keith Terlinden said Friday morning.

The woman called police and said the attack occurred near the 9100 block of Upland Lane N., close to the Rice Lake walking path.

The suspect is described as white, about 5 feet 6 to 6 feet tall, and in his late teens or early 20s. At the time of the attack, the man was wearing a black T-shirt and jeans.

He approached the woman on foot, police said, and was carrying a backpack and a black metal box. He fled the scene north on the path.

Police said they were preparing a sketch of the suspect.

Anyone with information about this case is asked to call the Hennepin County Sheriff's Office dispatch at 763-525-6216.
