Cities support military families with Yellow Ribbon Coalition

The cities of Edina, Excelsior, Hopkins, Minnetonka, St. Louis Park and Wayzata have joined to form the South West Twin Cities Yellow Ribbon Coalition to connect and coordinate agencies, organizations, resources and employers to support military service members and their families.

On June 28, organizers are seeking representatives of cities, veterans' groups, employers, service clubs, schools, faith-based organizations and other groups to develop a plan. The meeting is 7 to 9 p.m. at the Edina Senior Center, 5280 Grandview Square.

Police station and fire houses offer tours and raffle at open house

Golden Valley is offering tours of its police station and fire houses today from 6 to 8 p.m. Kids and adults can talk to the people who keep the city safe, try on their gear and tour equipment. A free pizza delivery will be raffled.

Tours will be at Fire Station 1 and the Police Department at 7800 Golden Valley Rd, Fire Station 2 at 400 Turners Crossroad, and Fire Station 3 at 3700 Golden Valley Rd.

HENNEPIN COUNTY

Volunteers sought for Watershed District

Hennepin County is seeking applicants for a vacancy on the Riley-Purgatory-Bluff Creek Watershed District Board.

The board coordinates management of water and related land resources within the areas of Riley, Purgatory and Bluff creeks in southwest Hennepin and northeast Carver counties.

A member may not be a public officer of the county, state or federal government and must be a resident of the district, which in Hennepin County includes portions of the cities of Bloomington, Eden Prairie, Minnetonka, Deephaven and Shorewood.

It is helpful for members to have a background in water conservation, development, law, engineering, environment or public administration. Members serve three-year terms.

The application deadline is July 5, with interviews to be held on July 10.
