Authorities searching since Thursday for a boater on a western Hennepin County lake found his body Friday afternoon, authorities said.

The Long Lake man in his 60s was reported missing about 10:30 p.m. after he went fishing by himself that morning in a small boat on Lake Independence, said Sheriff's Maj. Tracey Martin.

Authorities located the drifting boat and were using sonar equipment and divers Friday. A diver found the body in 6 feet of murky water near the Baker Park boat launch's dock, Martin said.

The man's name will be released later by the Hennepin County medical examiner's office.

Along with the Sheriff's Office and the State Patrol, there were also search personnel on the scene from Three Rivers Park police, the West Hennepin Public Safety Department and Medina police.
