A 12-year-old girl from Eden Prairie was in critical condition Wednesday night after she was struck by an SUV as she pushed her bike across a Carver County highway.

At about 4:30 p.m., the girl was crossing Hwy. 101 near Sandy Hook Road in Chanhassen when she was hit, said Sheriff Jim Olson. She wasn't walking at a crosswalk and was by herself, he said.

The girl was transported to the Hennepin County Medical Center with critical injuries, Olson said.

The Minnesota State Patrol was in the process of reconstructing the accident, he said.
