An 81-year-old man who had been missing from his Minnetonka home since Monday has been found dead south of Duluth near a snowmobile trail, authorities said Friday.

The death of Gerald Maloney "does not appear to be suspicious," said Jacque Larson, a spokeswoman for the city of Minnetonka.

Maloney's body was found about 7:40 p.m. Thursday in Clear Creek Township, and authorities in Carlton County are investigating, Larson and the Sheriff's Office said.

A snowmobiler spotted Maloney's car on a snowmobile trail, and deputies called to the scene found Maloney's body nearby, the Sheriff's Office added.

It wasn't known what prompted Maloney to head to that part of the state.

Maloney left his home late Monday morning in his car to visit an auto repair shop in Golden Valley. He never arrived, and police said he might have been confused due to memory trouble or simply gotten lost.
