World 'Rhythms' in concert Sunday

The MacPhail Center for Music's Spotlight Series will present "Rhythms Around the World" at 7 p.m. Sunday, featuring music by Libby Larsen, Astor Piazolla and an original composition.

Young Artist winner to perform on Sunday

Megan Ruan, a junior at Mounds View High School who has played the piano since she was 4, has been named the Music Association of Minnetonka's Young People's Bravissimo V1 award winner.

Ruan will perform at 3:30 p.m. Sunday at Minnetonka United Methodist Church, 17611 Lake St. Extension.

Show highlights man in nature

The Bloomington Theatre and Art Center will present "Unravel," an exhibition of the works of Laura Andrews examining man's relationship to the natural world, at the Atrium Gallery March 8-April 29.

Andrews shadowed hunters to document their activities, giving her insights into the human role in the natural world.

An opening reception is set for 6-8 p.m. March 8 at the center's Atrium Gallery, located at 1800 W. Old Shakopee Road in Bloomington. Gallery hours are 8 a.m.-10 p.m. Monday-Friday, 9 a.m.-5 p.m. Saturday and 1-10 p.m. Sunday. Admission is free.

Spring Expo planned at Arboretum

The Minnesota Landscape Arboretum's Spring Expo the weekend of March 9-11 will offer discussions on a range of topics, from biodiversity to heirloom plants.

"Learning to Grow, Growing to Learn" is the theme of the event, which will feature lectures, book signings and other attractions for gardening enthusiasts.

On Friday, there will be programs on seed saving and heirlooms with representatives of the Seed Savers Exchange organization of Decorah, Iowa; on Saturday, book-signings of new gardening editions from Timber Press and author talks; and on Sunday, lectures dealing with native plants, landscaping with grasses and sedges, garden pests and fruit-bearing shrubs and trees.
