Minnetonka has a new City Council member after voters went to the polls for a special election Tuesday.
Patty Acomb, 46, a school naturalist and biologist, topped a field of seven candidates vying for the seat vacated by Amber Greeves, who resigned after her husband was transferred to Colorado. Greeves was midway through her term, which expires in January 2014.
Acomb tallied 967 votes, followed by John Knight with 843, Peggy Kvam with 697, Joe Bodell with 150, Bonnie Burton with 58, Thom Lien with 20 and Joel Olson with 18.
Minnetonka has six City Council members -- two elected at large and four from wards -- who serve four-year staggered terms. The mayor chairs the council and serves as its seventh member.
The west-metro city has a population of about 50,000, according to the 2010 census.
