A motorcycle zipped past numerous vehicles between Rogers and Corcoran in western Hennepin County and hit a car that turned into his path, killing him, authorities said Tuesday.

The crash that killed Bruce E. Passer Jr., 38, of St. Michael, Minn., occurred late Friday afternoon on County Road 116 in front of the Pheasant Acres Golf Club, according to the Hennepin County medical examiner.

Passer was driving despite having lost his license for various traffic violations, said Corcoran Police Chief Sean Gormley.

Passer was heading north and went "in excess of" the 55 mile per hour limit in the opposite lane of traffic in an effort to pass 10 to 12 vehicles, Gormley said.

One of the vehicles turned left toward the golf club and in front of Passer, who then struck the car, according to the chief.

No one else was hurt in the collision. Passer was wearing a helmet, the chief said.

Passer's record includes two convictions for driving on a canceled license (2003 and 2009) and one for drunken driving (2004).

His sister, Jennifer Sweeney, said that Passer was on his way to a memorial event for a close friend who died two years ago.

"Bruce was a good man with a huge heart," said Sweeney, adding that he was "trying to put his life together" and was working with "the proper authorities to get his license reinstated."
