A member of the Chanhassen City Council was appointed Thursday to the seat on the Metropolitan Council representing Carver and Scott counties.

Gov. Tim Pawlenty named Craig Peterson to fill the vacancy created by the July resignation of Brian Lundquist.

Peterson, 50, a real estate broker with degrees in business administration, chairs the Southwest Transit Commission.

There were 17 applicants, three of whom withdrew. Twelve appeared at a public hearing, and that group was narrowed to Peterson and Lee Bernick, of Scott County.
