As part of the "Our Town, Verses and Voices" poetry project, the St. Louis Park Friends of the Arts featured 12 favorite poems in the city's 2010-11 city and school calendar. Two of the poems were written by children. Here they are.

what is red?

red is a mad volcano ready to erupt.

red is the warmest color of all.

red is meteors ready to fall.

red is fire dancing on the ground.

red means you're really, really mad.

red is hot red lava that burns your fingers.

red is a bright red apple that you eat.

that is what red is.

UNSEEN SECRETS

I hide my secrets in the core of a

brick and on the surface of a star.

I tell my secrets to the unseen

spirits around me and the light

rays from the sun.

Secrets live where man cannot go,

in the farthest part of space

and inside a velvet mite.
