St. Paul police shot and killed two pit bulls Sunday in the 200 block of Stinson Street after the dogs attacked two people.

One of the victims suffered multiple bite wounds to the foot, according to police spokesman Sgt. Paul Schnell. Both victims were treated at Regions Hospital and released, Schnell said.

Officers attempted to control and contain the animals, but were forced to open fire when the dogs remained aggressive, according to Schnell. Officers were concerned about the safety of bystanders.
