A St. Paul elementary school is one of 114 nationwide that has been recognized for promoting physical activity and healthy eating.
Randolph Heights Elementary School, located on S. Hamline Avenue, was honored this week in New York as part of the fourth annual Healthy Schools Program Forum.
The Healthy Schools Program attempts to help schools create healthier environments "by working with them to improve access to healthier foods; increase physical activity opportunities before, during and after school; enhance nutrition education; and establish school employee wellness programs."
At Randolph Heights, the only school honored in Minnesota, the program recognized school officials for rearranging the school schedule to add class time for health education, technology education and science experimentation.
Students are taught both physical education and health education daily.
The program is jointly sponsored by the William J. Clinton Foundation, the American Heart Association and the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation.
