The two men wounded and then hospitalized following a fatal St. Paul gun battle Sunday night are now under arrest, police said this afternoon.

One man was killed in the shootout shortly after 9 p.m. in the 400 block of Case Avenue E. He was identified this afternoon by police as Roberto Flores, 38, of St. Paul.

The gunfire followed "a dispute between these people who were known to each other," Police Sgt. Paul Schnell said this afternoon. From there, "it turned into a fight ... and ultimately a gun battle."

Schnell said a 43-year-old St. Paul woman has also been arrested on suspicion of aiding and abetting, and it is likely that more arrests are coming.

The shooting occurred at the woman's home, police said.

The St. Paul men who were arrested, ages 28 and 31, sufffered "quite serious" gunshot wounds and were taken to Regions Hospital, Schnell said. They were in serious but stable condition this afternoon.

Responding to reports that a maroon Dodge Neon had fled the scene, an officer stopped a car matching the description and found two men. The driver said he was taking his brother to the hospital. Paramedics arrived and pronounced Flores dead, Schnell said. The car was stopped on Mississippi Street near Phalen Boulevard.

It is St. Paul's eighth homicide this year. As of June 30 last year, there had been seven homicides.
