St. Paul police investigator to be honored for porn case

Last update: May 8, 2009 - 9:47 PM

A St. Paul police investigator is being honored nationally for his work in nabbing a child pornographer.

Sgt. Bill Haider, who is assigned to the Minnesota Internet Crimes Against Children task force, helped build the case against Aaron Jay Lemon, 23, of Little Canada, police spokesman Peter Panos said.

Lemon is serving a 20-year prison sentence after he admitted he answered a Craigslist list ad for a baby sitter in 2007 and used the child to make a pornographic video.

According to police, Haider initially was able to get Lemon to admit that he shared child pornography. But it took the investigator's "instincts and expertise," Panos said, for Haider to continue working the case after the suspect initially denied having molested any children.

Haider is to be honored Tuesday by the National Center for Missing & Exploited Children during the group's 14th Annual Congressional Breakfast in Washington.
