A St. Paul police officer was released from the hospital Monday night after a Green Line rail train collided with his squad car near Pascal Street and University Avenue.

The officer, Pil Jeon, had been taken to Regions Hospital with neck and back pain, officials said.

The collision occurred around 2:30 p.m. as the train headed east, said Metro Transit spokesman Howie Padilla. Nobody on the train was injured.

Jeon had been driving north on Pascal Street, with his lights and siren on, when the car was struck, said Sgt. Paul Paulos, a spokesman for the St. Paul police.

Buses temporarily took light-rail passengers between the Rice Street and Raymond stations until shortly after 3 p.m., when Green Line service resumed in the area, Padilla said.
