Shrugging off temperatures well below zero, a St. Paul man found the Winter Carnival medallion early Monday, organizers announced.
The medallion, worth $10,000 to the finder, was unearthed in St. Paul's Como Park by Ben Haselman, 27.
It's the eighth time the lucky charm has been claimed in that park.
The Treasure Hunt for the Medallion has been a Winter Carnival tradition since 1952. The Pioneer Press publishes a new clue to the medallion's secret location daily until Jan. 30 or until the medallion is found.
Haselman's find was sewn into a section of bluejeans and buried in about 8 inches of snow behind the park's streetcar station, the newspaper reported.
