The Ramsey County Medical Examiner’s Office determined Monday that the death of a man found in a Frogtown alley last week was a homicide.

St. Paul police identified the victim as 20-year-old Erick Renada Pineda Ordonez, of St. Paul.

About 7 a.m. Friday, police were dispatched to the 600 block of Van Buren Avenue, where Ordonez’s body was found in an alley. The exact location of where the incident took place is near a home listed as a vacant building.

Neighbors didn’t immediately respond to knocks at the door or phone calls.

Police initially labeled the case a “suspicious death.” The medical examiner determined that Ordonezs died from a gunshot wound, said Howie Padilla, spokesman for the St. Paul police.

No arrests have been made in the case.

Anyone with information about the case should call the Police Department’s homicide unit at 651-266-5650.
