St. Paul police Sgt. Gerald Vick was remembered as a compassionate police officer.
A plaque will be laid today in honor of slain St. Paul police Sgt. Gerald Vick at the Margaret Recreation Center on St. Paul's East Side.
The public is invited to the playground dedication at 4 p.m. today at the center, 1109 Margaret St. A short memorial service will follow.
"It's an appropriate place," said police spokesman Tom Walsh. "It's an area he committed himself to, an area where he spent time with kids."
Vick, 41, was fatally shot on May 6, 2005, in an alley behind Erick's Bar on the East Side.
