3 more Central Corridor stops are proposed

Last update: February 1, 2008 - 11:54 PM

The St. Paul City Council's newest members are floating a resolution that emphasizes the importance of adding three stops to the proposed Central Corridor light-rail line between Snelling Avenue and Rice Street.

Melvin Carter and Russ Stark, whose wards would include the line, also request in the resolution that a council member get a voting seat on the committee in order to advise the Metropolitan Council during design and construction of the line. Mayor Chris Coleman represents the city on the 13-member panel.

Stations on University Avenue are proposed to be a mile apart, but some have asked for added stations at Hamline, Victoria and Western Avenues.

"This is being established not as a line in the sand, but as a clear communication where the city" stands, Carter said.

The City Council will vote on the resolution Wednesday.
