A St. Paul woman gave birth to the first baby born in the Twin Cities in 2008.

Carter Strong Lam arrived at 12:03 a.m. Tuesday at Regions Hospital in St. Paul. He weighed 5 pounds, 14 ounces and was 19 inches long, said hospital spokeswoman Ashley Burt.

It's the second child for parents Annie and Randy Lam, who have a 4-year-old daughter.

Annie is a patient care assistant at Regions Hospital. Randy works for a company called Pioneer Packages.

Mother, father, daughter and baby are all doing fine, Burt said.
