The Science Museum of Minnesota will be closed to the public for two weeks starting in late August, museum officials announced today.
The museum is making itself available exclusively for the 45,000 guests expected to take in the Republican National Convention Sept. 1-4 in downtown St. Paul.
As a result, it will close its doors to the public on Aug. 29 and reopen on Sept. 12. The closing includes the museum's annual one-week shutdown for exhibit maintenance.
"We're making this announcement well in advance of the convention in order to give our regular visitors plenty of time to make plans to visit the Science Museum of Minnesota in the months ahead," said Mike Day, the museum's senior vice president.
During the RNC, the museum will host private convention events and allow convention attendees to tour its featured exhibits, including "Star Wars," with more than 80 costumes, models and props from all six films. That exhibit opens to the public June 13.
