St. Paul firefighters are asking the public to choose their No. 1 calendar hunk.

Six firefighters will each appear twice in a 2012 calendar that will benefit the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation. They're asking Facebook users to "like" their favorite firefighter on the Facebook page, St. Paul Firefighters Calendar (www.startribune.com/a569). The winner will grace the cover.

Voting opens at 8 a.m. Wednesday and ends Aug. 3. Users can vote for as many firefighters as they want.

It's the third year that firefighters have shed their shirts for charity.

The 2010 and 2011 calendars each raised about $5,000 for the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation. The 2011 calendar also raised $2,000 for the Autism Society of Minnesota, said firefighter Alex Freese, who is in the running for top hunk.

Calendars cost $15 each. In previous years they were sold mostly at Borders Books, in addition to some small coffee shops and retailers.

It's unclear where they will sell with Borders stores liquidating, but Freese said organizers are searching for new retailers.

For the first time, it's available online at www.stpaulfirefighter.com. A promotional video can be seen at www.startribune.com/a570.

A release party is planned for Sept. 10. There also will be calendar signings and events, including a blood pressure check on Thursday at the LA Fitness in Roseville. Details are available at the firefighters' website.
