Dear Parent and Guardians of Washington Technology Magnet Middle School,

We want to inform you of a situation involving one of our students. We value your partnership with our school and want to keep you updated on matters that affect us.

On Wednesday a staff member overheard a student make threatening statements regarding another student. A weapon was mentioned and the staff member reported it to school administration. During our investigation, we did not find any weapon at school. We followed our district's threat assessment procedure and involved the Saint Paul Police Department. Police informed us that the threat was credible. The student was taken into custody and currently is not in school.

We will take appropriate action in this situation. Be aware that according to our district Rights and Responsibilities handbook, the minimum discipline for terroristic threats includes possible referral for expulsion.

We also want to assure you that we have a number of plans in place to protect our students and our school. Please remember that one of the best ways to ensure our school remains as safe as possible is by encouraging students to report any suspicious behavior. If you have questions or concerns, please contact me at 651-293-8830.

Sincerely,

Mike McCollor

Principal
