St. Paul police were called about shots fired on the city's east side Friday night, and responding officers found the body of a young man in an alley off Jessamine Street near Arcade Avenue.

It was unclear whether the victim had been shot because he had extensive head injuries from being hit by a car that left the scene, police officials said.

A resident who had called police to the 800 block of Jessamine Avenue reported that a group of young Asian men were arguing when the shots were fired about 7:15 p.m. The St. Paul police gang unit was investigating.

Another young man was being treated at Regions Hospital for a gunshot wound to the hand, police said.
